Relatives in America??? .....
In researching my paternal family history, I have found out that the relatives who were in America (I never knew their surnames) must have been related to my father, I have a couple of photos, one of Jean & Mary, whos is who Idon`t know, and one of Aex, the second Yankee ? he bears a strong resemblance to my father.
I now know that my father was the illegitimate son of Christina McCulloch, and am trying to trace any descendants from Ezekiel McCulloch (Christina`s father) apparently one of his sons or could have been a grandson? went to America and settled there, I believe it was Youngston, Ohio.
The photo of Alex the second Yankee, may possibly be a cousin of my father?
So, if anyone visits this board and is researching the McCulloch family would they please contact me, so that we can exchange information?
my father later "adopted" the surname of Barr his natural father, I can find no trace of him after 1896 (when my father was born in Port Glasgow)
Ezekiel McCulloch was born in Ireland, but I don`t know where. He married in Tradeston Glasgow in 1862 to Caroline Fraser, he died in Port Glasgow where he eventually settled.

Hi Maud
Have you had any luck with this one? It might be worth posting approximate dates and locations you have for people, might help to make connections.

Relatives in America
Sadly no results as yet.
It is not possible to supply any dates as I have no idea of when the person concerned had gone to America, as far as I can make out, it may have been one of the McCulloch sons of Ezekiel, they had been living in Port Glasgow. My paternal grandmother was Christina McCulloch, she married in 1898 to Joseph Hutton (not the father of her child James, my father)
It`s possible the one who emigrated may have been Alexander McCulloch, but that is only a guess, based on the comment written on the photo, saying, that this was the second Yankee, which could have indicated another Alexander born in the USA

Perhaps a foolish question, but have you been able to find their names on the Canadian On-line Census, amongst others 1851, 1901, 1911??

Best wishes

Relatives in America
Fir my Canadian ancestors I have managed to find them on the census, with difficulty however on the 1911, I find that hard to understand, and it is necessary to know the province in which they are. However, I have managed to track most of them down on there, does not help though in find any descendants.
As for America, I do not have access to census for there, one needs to pay a subscription for that on Ancestry .com. I already have Amcestry UK, and so could not afford to contribute to both (esecially being an OAP, I have to carefully watch the pennies)
Thanks for your interest however.

Ah But ....
I was very lucky when I posted on either Roots or Ancestry - I can't remember which, for my Walker relatives who went to Arkansas in the 1870s - some kind soul saw my post and looked them up on the American census for me - it's worth a try anyway.

Relatives in America
Thank you Liz/Trishtrash& Sarah,
For your interest and offers of help, I really do appreciate it.
It would be great if I could find fresh clues about the particular person I am searching for, especially the person in the photo I have,.This is a picture of a chap in baseball outfit, he is so like my father, he MUST be a close relative, the writing on the back just says, Alex the second Yankee, but that does not tell me WHO the particular Alex is, Its so frustrating!
Since finding out that my father had been illegitimate, its quite likely that the chap in the photo could have been a McCulloch (my father`s mother was Christina McCulloch) and there was an Alexander Ezekiel McCulloch, he appears on the 1881 Scottish census age 7 with the family
There had been an earlier Alexander born (in Tradeston Glasgow) but he died shortly after birth, in 1873, In 1874 Alexander Ezekiel was born, the family were still living in Tradeston, Melville St.
Was this the Alexander referred to? I just do not know.
The Alexander referred to above, married in 1899 to Sarah O`Neill, they also had a son named Alexander and he married Bridget Duffy in 1828,
could this have been the Alexander in the photo, or was the next one HIS son. However, when I think more about it, he could not have been the chap in the photo, this was taken around the 1930s I think, by the style of the clothing,
Or, another thought, could the chap in the photo have been named after one of the previous Alexanders?
as you can imagine, it is all a bit confusing, sometimes my head goes in circles trying to sort them all out!!
Anyway, the only sure fact is that the one in the photo had been named Alexander the second Yankee, which would I assume mean the next Alexander to have been born in USA (if you are lost by now, I can quite understand, by the time I get finished sorting through them all, I`m completely lost!!)
I know my father must have had correspondence with the American relatives, I well recall the enormous newspapers that used to arrive before the second war, my brothers and I were given the comic sections to read, I was fascinated by the "Dagwoods" in the comic section.
My father died in 1941, shortly after the Clydebank blitz , and we had all been evacuated to Balloch (do any of you know that place?)
As far as I know there was no further correspondence from America.
Thank you Trish for the refernce about Roots Chat, I am already using that, and have had some wonderful help from a lovely lady in tracing my Canadian ancestors there (those on my mother`s side of the family)
