Here he is in 1851. The handwriting could easily be interpreted with two 'u's or two 'n's or a combination thereof. However, someone on Ancestry who appears to be doing a study of families with this surname has corrected the transcription to Renaut, so let's assume that this is the correct spelling.

Thornham, Norfolk
Thomas Renaut, Head, 49, Grocer & Draper, born Norfolk, Holme next the Sea
Euphemia do wife, 50, born Norfolk, North Runton (Ruuton)
Mary Ann (could easily say Mary Auu, but I'm going with Ann!), Daur, 19, born Norfolk, Thornham
Jane, Daur, 16, born Norfolk, Thornham
Nicholas, Son, 14, Scholar, born Norfolk, Thornham
Euphemia, Daur, 9, Scholar, born Norfolk, Thornham
William, Son, 7, Scholar, born Norfolk, Thornham

Thanks for the links, Alan. It is interesting to see that Quintin's son kept the name Gascoyne. It must have been fairly clear that Quintin, at least, was Dawson's son.

All the best,
Sarah
