Lorna,
I too was in Glasgow and I have been told that the men in our local A.R.P
spent their time making toys. If you remember almost all toys were home made.
A gas mask was also part of their uniform. I remember we all had gas masks hanging in the cupboard.
No Fischer Price in those days.

Hi Wini
Yes, I'm a 39er too from the soo' side. Do I remember the toys? Dad made matching dolliess wardrobes which even had wee hangers inside - but never quite got painted. What did that matter? And the farm was a triumph, matchsticks made the hen coop for the broody hen and corrugated cardboard painted bright red was a brilliant corrugated iron roof. Think the animals were donated by someone (or, whisper it, could they have been under the counter from the old lady in the toyshop next to his office in Paisley who took pity on the young man with two wee girls?)
I still have and use the bookcase he made and the nest of tables. The family are fed up being told that when I'm gone, they can throw anything else out but if they get rid of those I'll be back to haunt them.
Cheers
Lorna
