Hi Annie,
Thank you so much, that made really interesting reading.
When I came to Perth two years ago I had the most wonderful time looking fr the ancestors places of birth. I went to Crieff and Caputh as this is where my main line comes from. I thought Crieff was beautiful and wish I had known more info back then. Caputh seemed very small, although I probably should have looked further as I couldnt find Wester Caputh.
I see another trip up on the horizon.

Again Many Thanks
Anne

Hi Anne

Although I don't know the Crieff area I wondered if the Petenger name dates back far enough to have included a 'Yogh' from the pre printed language days. A yogh was pronounced as 'ing' and would turn out as Petingie. Enzie , in Buchan, is pronounced locally as Ingie.
Bruce's point about there being a toll-road reinforces this as toll roads are often centuries old.

Just a thought.

Hi Russell,
Both the Petinger and the toll road are from addresses on the 1841 census, that was why i was wondering about them. By the 1851 census my ancestors from the toll road have both died. Their son and wife are then at another Crieff address in 1851 and then move to Glasgow for the 1861 census.
Regards
Anne
