I am Scottish history buff, but we need a new anthem. I tire very easily about hearing about the one battle we won against the English never mind all the others we lost. Besides why do we continually base our Scottishness by English bashing. We do the same here in Canada, to be Canadian we have to be "not American"
Dempsey, Bon(n)ar, Brown, O'Donnell (2), Morgan, McDonald, McNeillis, Graham, Moor, Gallocher, Donnelly, Dougan.
Hampton, Stewart (2), Wilson (2), Main, Thomson, MacPherson, Thaw, Watson, Barclay, Kinloch, Brand (2) Murray, Harper. Edward(s) Nicol

Woooooooooooooooooooooo !!!! - that should invoke some pretty interesting views - mine are perhaps too extremely biased in favour of Scotland to post here. More than one victorious battle springs to mind.
Have fun everyone.

The Scottish parliament discussed the issue of our national anthem... their conclusions
Flower of Scotland..... a bit too anti-English
A man's a man ......... a bit too political
Scotland the brave....... no-one could remember the words
Scot's wha hae ......... no-one could understand the words
A decision was taken to commission a new anthem, tenders were sent in from all the best Scottish songwriters and composers of today.
Much to the surprise of most observers, it was decided to award the project to the Spanish punk rocker San Miguel and his wife Fran... their tender of £30 plus 5 bottles of Irn Bru was considered to be the best value for the taxpayer. The new song was promised to be "the most exciting musical experience since Shang-a-Lang",
Unfortunately the two week project slightly over-ran (by four years) and the budget grew to £80 million but at least we were promised an anthem to be proud of.
The Grand opening for the new anthem was held last year and most people were stunned... "why do we need so many ole's ?" was the general consensus.
Then disaster struck...
At one performance the song collapsed during the second verse (the band leader was heard to complain "there's no catchy bits"), a skilled team of proclaimers had to be flown in to rescue the performance with the catchy bits from "500 miles".
A statement from the parliament was released...
Currently our new anthem is deemed to be unsafe, we will go back to using the old anthem (Flower of Scotland) until "Juan for the road" is made safe.

Your post falls into the "gonna nae dae that without at least a wee bit of warning" class of category........... at least the coffee only hit the screen and not the keyboard
Quite brilliant
, - I'll assume that I can circulate this further
For those not fully familiar with recent ongauins in Scotland, our new parliament building was estimated originally to cost £30m, and when last reported on was fast approaching £500m (five hundred million).
The architect was Spanish, - well Catalan, who, sadly died during the project.
The project completion date was 2 and a half years (?? I loast the place long ago) delayed. For those with any project/procurement experience they will understand when I write that the contract basis was cost plus, and there were in excess of 15,000 (that's right, fifteen thousand) contract variations on the original tendered specification and initial contract price of somewhere around £100m , - again I've long since forgotten what the precise figure was..
The main debating chamber is just about to re-open after closure for 2 or 3 months to examine the situation following a main roof beam becoming detached and nearly hitting some of our valued MSPs, - costs for an alternative venue have exceeded £250,000 , and I haven't seen any info recently on the repair costs and who will pay the bills. For any structural engineers among you, the roof design assumed that all these beams were in compression, but it turns out that the "highly innovative" design of the roof means that some beams were in tension (or was it tension, then compression
- Ah gie up, being just a simple (bio)-chemical engineer - watch it at the back of the class there in terms of your interpretation of "simple" [-X )
On the outside of the building, the hundreds of wooden slats in the "bamboo" type of design are starting to look progressively tatty.
Inside and outside the buildings there is still an extensive snags list, with leaking roofs, doors and windows.
Oh aye, and no-one obviously had thought about how to clean the outside of many of the windows, - recently, specialist abseilers had to brought in at the cost of £20,000 ...............
But of course, we Scots in Scotland are now being proudly informed that our new parliament building has already won several prestigious architectural awards .................
If I'm still about in 20 years I'll be fascinated to see if Scotland's parliament building has become Edinburgh's answer to the Sydney Opera House ............

I don't know any of your wee songs.....and I don't know any of the wee lyrics.....and I don't know how many battles you've won or lost nor really care......but if this was a real contest and I was the only judge I'd send the rest of the performers home right now and give the trophy to Jim. =D>
Thankfully I can say I know your humour
(isnt' that all that really matters
)
Best wishes
