Hi Andrew & Trotterbeck

Welcome to Talking Scot Trotterbeck! :D

I found that one too a couple of days back, (Google: "braid street" edinburgh) but dismissed it because when I tried to cross ref the address (Google "Braid Hills Hotel") to find out where the street was, the hotel was then turning up as in Braid Road, as you mentioned Andrew.

Best wishes
Lesley

Have you tried emailing the Library in Edinburgh, I have often found that library staff are quite happy to check this sort of thing in old gazeteers and even do photocopies of the relevant sections of their old maps.
I'm a Cousin - are you? http://www/LostCousins.com

Looking for Beck and Trotter in Hawick and

Nae probs. :D It had me excited for a moment too - thought I'd found what seems to be a very elusive street!

Best wishes
