Concise Scots Dictionary has "a salmon net fixed on stakes and stretched into the bed of a river" this from the NE, so correct area.

Unfortunately, this is not relevant! Féith is a Gaelic word, not Scots, and means bog, quagmire, swamp, marsh ...

Well

When I first discovered Faebuie, I thought it was such a lovely name and now I find it means "Yellow Bog"

I prefer Faebuie

That sounds better, although I'll bet the words are related, given the water theme and the areal distribution. The dictionary says the origin is "unknown".

Hi Jean,

Is your red text above correct in using the grave accent è or should it be an acute accent é. The meanings of Fèith and Féith are quite different.

Fèith - a calm stillness; a short respite or crisis of a disease
Fèith - a sinew, a tendon; a vein; a blood vessel

Féith - a bog, a fen, a morass

All the best,

AndrewP

PS
è - <alt>0232 (numbers from number keypad only)
é - <alt>0233 (numbers from number keypad only)

Hi Andrew

It is definitely a grave accent è :D

That sounds better "Yellow Calmness"

Cheers
