As a side note , I had 3 Govanites in tonight [ faither, Aunt and Uncle] when asked "Windsor Street Govan?" they all chorused Where?

But thanks to Nelmit, they went for a walk down memory lane and decided that it's now around the present day Orkney Street.

They of course weren't around then!!

Hello Shortfuse,

If you go back to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and go to your viewed images. Select that image. When you get to the viewer page, you should see a button marked view free header. Click on that. It will give you the first page of the enumeration book. Then you will see view next header page. One of these header pages will contain a description of the enumeration district covered by that book.

All the best,

AndrewP

The 1927 Glasgow Directory
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com ... x-glas.htm
lists 2 Windsor Streets in Glasgow
1 off of Dumbarton Road and the other off of Maryhill Road

Wilma,

My husband and I are Govanites too and when I phoned my father in law, who was born in Queen Street (now Neptune Street), he hadn't a clue either. He had a look at his 1909 map (first I've heard of it  ) and was surprised to see he used to live just round the corner from Windsor Street. My mum lived along the road at Brighton Street.

Brought back memories for me as when I visited my gran I played in the swing park at the end of Neptune Street.

Kind regards,
Annette M

I found Windsor Street on an 1897 OS map. On the next map (1913), North Avenue had been extended through to become a continuation of Windsor Street, running continuous from Princes Street, the whole lot then taking on the name Princes Street.

On the current map on www.streetmap.co.uk it is shown as Vicarfield Street. It was the westmost section of that street. It had become Vicarfield Street by the 1930s according to an OS map from that era.
