Well it WAS a BBC News headline David, and we all know how journalists take the "artistic licence" concept a bit too far sometimes.

Personally, I think it is wonderful. These are the words of the people living at the time. The opinions and grievances stated give a fairly clear picture of what injustices were suffered by many, and the statements of some of the perpetrators are, in some cases, positively cold, showing no regard for the welfare of their victims.

It may not be Domesday Book but very interesting and helpful
Neil MacPherson, states in is submission that he and many others leave for almost the entire year to find work. Which would explain why some of the men are missing from various Cenuses, discovering where they were will be another challenge.
