I don't think the price difference is to do with your locations. I think the higher priced one is the hard-cover edition and the lower priced one is the paperback edition. This can be seen on
www.amazon.co.uk if you do a search for Rosemary Bigwood.

I went to a couple of Edinburgh city centre bookshops today.
Blackwells (formerly James Thin) in South Bridge said they had not had it in yet, and the publication date was at the end of March. I told them that Waterstones had already been selling it, and that the publication date was 31st December 2006. His computer couldn't tell him any more.
Next to Waterstones, Princes Street (just round the corner from New Register House). I knew beforehand that it had been on sale in another of their branches. I looked and could not see it. I asked and they consulted the computer. First of all I was told that it was only published on 31st December and that they had not had it in yet. I told him that it had been bought in their other Princes Street branch a week earlier (a few days before the official release date) and he looked puzzled. His colleague tapped at the keyboard again and found that they too had it on sale a few days before the publishing date, but had sold out of their small allocation. It is on order and is expected in again, soon. He checked the computer again and could see no stock of the book available in any of their other shops.
Both were pleased that I had taken a note of the ISBN book number (even if that was from Amazon). This made their computer searches easy for them.
All the best,
