Would that be Catrine, Caturn, or Co'rin as the locals say. I have to pick up on a previous post on Ochiltree. I would have said it ended in tri.

I'd have to argue for Cau'rin, to voice a slightly different vowel sound !!, - that on the basis of my brother-in-law having been the local GP a few decades ago ............

Hi Jean,

BO'NESS - Like Dr. McCoy or two syllables with the ess's...and is that wee separation point a chance to draw wind or just a leaving out of letters :?:
Bow-ness (Bow as in bow and arrow)
(Bo'ness is short for Borrowstounness)

BIGGAR - instead of smaller rhymes with tigger?
Yes - Edinburgh's big, but Biggar's Biggar.

HAILES - like the weather or mowing the field?
Hails like the weather, rhymes with pails

DALRYMPLE - this one I'm feart of cause it's got the Dalry in the front and I had that one all wrong. Just tell me flat out cause I've got no guesses now... :?
Dal-rimple (second part like pimple)

KILBARCHAN - Och it's got the ch....but whit dae I dae with it?? Can it...Charlie Chan it....Chin it.....I give up
(I'll leave that one to Russell to answer)

TROQUEER - Trow Queer or more like Trucker :? :?:
I go for Trow-queer (trow rhymes with low)

Oh and just for clarification....do you ever say Burgh as berg?? or can I count on it always as burra????
In Scotland, always burra (unless anyone can come up with an exception)

All the best,

AndrewP

Thanks AndrewP

Kilbarchan is actually quite straightforward

Kilbarkan emphasis on the first bit.

The real teaser - lying in a field just outside the village is:
The Clochoderick Stone (200 tons of glacial erratic!)
The Court stone of King Ridderick of Strathclyde.

Cloch is from the Gaelic OD [is emphasised]erick.

This is the History and Geography thread isn't it???

Annette, while you're up at Enster will you bring me an ashett supper or a single white puddin' please.
