I very much agree with that David.

Also, missing out bits that we think we already know can sometimes mean missing out on new insights the author has brought to the subject.

You've got it, especially in terms of new insights :!:

In fact, thinking about, not just new insights, but also alternative insights .....

Hi All,

I work for a Scottish Shop in Palm Springs. The owners birthday is coming up on February 8th. We (the staff) decided to purchase the hard copy of Family Tree Detective for him. I ordered it online yesterday, and just received notice today that it has shipped.

I guess the hard copy is much easier to get than the paperback.

Just noticed a small mistake with regards to Scotland's Local Authorities (pg21). The obvious one being Fife and Falkirk and a small county in the Lanarkshire/Glasgow area (# - 20)

Some of the numbers and places do not match up.

Falkirk - 13 should be 29
Fife - 20 should be 13.

Still a brilliant book from what I have read. :D

I am still looking at the Contents and Index
I'll have to put it beside the bed

Yes, finished, despite many other pressures on my time, and I admit to being even more aware of all I do not know than before reading started.

The book seems to cover pretty well everything concerning Scottish ancestry in an organised way. The only omission I noticed was the records of Scottish (and other) captains and first mates to be found in the Guidhall Library in London, see TS.

Otherwise IMHO an unbelievably comprehensive vademecum.

Guid hunting,

Agreed
20 is East Renfrewshire (20 listed twice)
Falkirk - 13 should be 29
Fife - 20 should be 13

Also agreed - brilliant book.

All the best,

Andrew
