Alan got in first and I think he has located it although it no longer exists on modern maps.
That part of central Glasgow was riddled with lanes and alleyways many of which have been cleared for modern buildings.
I tried several maps from around 1840-50's but they did not show the smaller alleyways, only the main streets.
I have a feeling that it was near to Dobbie's Loan because I searched that area some time ago for some of my own ancestors and the name rang vague bells. It is probably under Buchanan Street Bus Station or one of the large office/commercial blocks which fill that area now.
