I was browsing around through my Campbell side from the Fife regions and came across something that had me questioning the possibility of it being two sisters and not one person. Both are within children of James Campbell and Christian Hunter.
The names are as:
Euphan Campbell b 25 April 1817 Dunfermline, Fife; one of the searches emphasizes she died the same year but had a spouse by the name Thomas Sinclair.
The other name was Euphemia Campbell b 28 July 1810 and moved to New York. Ancestry has her in an 1880 Federal Census.
Are they two separate sisters? Also I am unable to acquire any data pertaining James Campbell.
Now for a good laugh......Try checking Christian Campbell b 14 July 1827
through the Ancestry.com and see what it shows. I had a good laugh on that because she had spouses and the likes before her parents; herself were even born. I did stop laughing because the thought occured to me that the person, by birth date, could be in my ancestry.
Any help clearing this up would be appreciated.
Could there be..........?

As I'm sure you know, the only extracted birth records for James Campbell and Christian Hunter's children are:
May, Chr. 26 Jul 1812
Betty, Chr.12 Feb 1815
Euphan, Chr. 4 May 1817
All in Dunfermline
But obviously, there were more... some were still at home in 1841:
Milesmark, Dunfermline, Fife
James Campbell, 60, born Fife, Coal M
Euphemia Campbell, 30
May Campbell, 20
David Campbell, 20
James Campbell, 15
Archibald Campbell, 15
Sorry, I'm not really helping
Just trying to gather bits of evidence.
Regards,
Sarah

Hi v_b_gael_h
The names Euphan and Euphemia are from the same root - they may well be interchangeable as Euphan was the earlier form used, I think, before Euphemia became the preferred version. It may well work in a similar way to Grizel > Grace: again both forms of the same name, the first being an original form which evolved into the second, sometimes in the lifetime of the person. I have a Grizel born 1797, who by the time of her marriage in 1835, and every subsequent mention, is called Grace.
I have a Euphan too b.1742, but the name does not appear in this case to follow down the generations, so no Euphemias.
Best wishes
Lesley

Could be, as suggested that the first child Euphan/Euphemia died, and the second was named Euphemia. However, if your data is coming from IGI or Ancestry, it is always worth digging about a bit in the original records (OPR births, any OPR or other death/burial records for the area, MIs) to confirm "facts".the possibility of it being two sisters and not one person.
Best wishes

Dear Sarah and Currie:
Thank you both it was gratefully appreciated. Thanks to you both you have enabled me to send an e-mail to another party in the States researching my direct lineage; apparently more experienced than I at this too.
Checking through the site given Currie and cross referencing I was able to determine that there were indeed two individual births with the renaming of the deceased child (died approximately a month or two after birth) to the later birth. Somehow the births have been mixed up which is understandable when naming two children the same in those days.
Again thank you.
