Hi
I found this an excellent series, first time round. If you miss a programme you can "Listen again" on the website.

Week 4 of 6.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/tra ... l?focuswin

- The World’s First Literary Agent
- Social History through a Writer’s Eyes
- A Reluctant Secretary at War
- The Trace Race

This week we launched an experiment – genealogy against the clock!
Many people put off researching their family tree because they think it would take months if not years, and might cost quite a bit too. We’re putting that assumption to the test. With the help of two keen (naïve?) novices we’re going to find out how far a complete beginner can get in just 48 hours, on a £50 budget …

Final Programme.

She’s off to a graveyard to find her family graves. Takes a Taxi and on arrival says to the driver “I’ll be about 15 minutes in here if that’s ok ………….”

That must be where I went wrong. If there had been a taxi meter running I too would have been finished in 15 minutes rather than trudging around all day.

Yes Alan
It was a pity they didn't mention Talking Scot as well as RootsChat (I had e-mailed the programme).
Also, perhaps if the novice Henrietta had been searching for Scottish ancestors on line via Scotland's People she might have been more successful, given that there is far more info recorded on Scottish certificates, and you can view the certificates rather than just the reference on line.
Still, all in all an enjoyable series. Perhaps it will encourage more folk to join us all. especially as both series can still be listened to again on line.
Best wishes

Hello Carolyn,

Yes, it was a very good series. Hopefully there will be more of them.
I really enjoyed BBC TVs “Scotland’s History – The Top Ten”. I posted Programme 1 a week ago and have been waiting for Programme 2 to appear but it still hasn’t shown. I’m not sure what’s happening there.

All the best,
Alan

Wonderful quote. That just has to be the funniest statement I've read in a while.

Console yourself with the thought of all the interesting things she must have missed rushing in and out like that!

Best wishes
Lesley
