Hi All,
I have a question that a resident of Paisley might be able to answer.
I would like to know if The Paisley Infirmary, Fever Hospital and Reception House on Bridge Street in Paisley, is still there.
One of my GGrandmothers died there in 1891 at the age of 40,
Regards

The Paisley Infirmary
Hi Sheila,
Alas all gone very many years ago...
...even i can't ever remember it, and that's not just my poor memory!
As you know it was situated right next to the River Cart...so not exactly the ideal position for a hospital !
I know i've seen a picture of it somewhere, but i just can't mind where; perhaps in a book?
Completely re-landscaped - the ground was a car park for a good number of years.
But nowadays a new layout of Bridge St, and an extended Mill St over a new bridge cover the area.

The Paisley Infirmary
Hi Sheila,
Following Alan's suggestion of a modern day Google map, here's an earlier one.
If you go to the excellent NLS site -
http://www.nls.uk/maps/townplans/townplans.html
Select Paisley [1858]
Select XII.2.19.
The Infirmary is near the bottom right corner.
To zoom in, just left click on the area you want.
All that remains of that area is the Saucel Mill (at the extreme bottom right).
This was converted into the Watermill Hotel, and still stands today.
Looking at Old-Maps the Infirmary seems to have disappeared 1924 - 1938.

Hi All,
Thank you, Jack, for that site. Those maps are wonderful. They show the complete plan of the Paisley Infirmary.
I am glad that you sent me to the exact site where it was.
Thank you, Bervonian. I have seen some Photos of Paisley before, and will now add these to my list. I like to look at the photos of Paisley where my mother was born and my grandparents lived.
I will use them in the scrapbook that I am working on.
These are two sites that I want to keep track of.
Thank you both,
