Hi Jan,
Welcome to Talking Scot
Broadford is a town at the southeast end of the Isle of Skye and Scalpay is an island off the coast about 5 miles from Broadford as the crow flies!
What sort of information are you looking for?

Hi Jan
If the other family members were born on Skye then it's likely to be the one off Skye. The other Scalpay is off the Island of Harris (the bridge is quite a recent innovation!) so quite a distance away.

Hi Jan,
It looks like there is a small population on Scalpay. The "big house", plus various cottages (including 3 for hire for holidays). There are no surfaced roads. If you visit, you leave your car on Skye, and the boatman will take you across. The only vehicles on the island are 2 tractors, a truck and a quad-bike.
See http://www.isleofscalpay.com/home.htm
Looks good if you like a remote holiday. No shops on the island. For remoter parts of the island: electricity by generator, gas in cylinders.
Looks like the population will be measured in tens rather than hundreds.
Scalpay (Skye) was in Strath parish. Scalpay (Harris) was in Harris parish.
All the best,
AndrewP
