Does anyone know of any books or any resource that would explain the workings of the Borough Courts and the content of their records.
I don't really want an in depth legal view just an overview of what they did, how they functioned, and their responsibilites.

Hi Jen
There is some information about Burgh Courts here:
http://www.nas.gov.uk/guides/burgh.asp
...and if you use Google you will find a range of sites which mention the Burgh Courts, including some interesting excerpts from Google books.
No courts mentioned in this article for use in schools, but it helps place everything in context, in an interesting and short account of a Burgh. http://www.buildingconnections.co.uk/re ... sheets.pdf
Best wishes
Lesley

Thanks Lesley,
I had read the NAS piece about Burgh Court but wanted something a bit more detailed.
I shall now go and Google.
Regards

Hello Jen,
If you google for exactly what’s within the brackets, and variations, you’ll find some material at the Internet Archive that may be useful.
