The marlage.....

I recently found out my great-grandfather was a gamekeeper at "the marlage" in Lanarkshire. I believe it was near Hamilton (not sure). I have done a google search, with no luck. Does anyone have any idea where and what "the marlage" is? This would have been in the late 1800's early 1900's, as my great-grandparents were married in 1890.

I haven't looked any further on this but according to the 1881 census these are all the families in residence at "Marlage". You'll note that it's in Dalserf, Lanarkshire. Any of these happen to be family?

Thanks Jean & Nelmut. They wouldn't appear on the 1881 census as they didn't marry until 1890 (James & Christina McKinlay). I've been told they lived in the marlage until their house was struck by lightning! They then moved to Swinhill. I'll go look at the old maps.

There used to be a Marlage Collery just north of the place marked Marlage.

So I expect these dwellings would have been part of that .
