ARE THERE ANY BOOKS ABOUT.....

Post by d.mackechnie » Fri Sep 16, 2005 5:17 pm

Hello, i was reading a chapter in a book called Benbecula about the 1923 land raids, its about when the people of the Island took back Nunton Farm from the Gordon family after the Clearances and would like to read more about this piece of Island history.Does any one know of any books that might further my knowledge of this as im pretty sure some of my ancestors where involved in the Land raids.
Many Thanks,
Donald.

Hello Donald

There is a libraries link at the top of the page. This contains information about several local or regional libraries. It may well be worth your while to write to one of them to ask about books on the history of Benbecula.

All the best

Greetin's Donald
I am clearing out some old books, and came across a few on the Western Isles.
Only one specifically on Benbecula by Ray Burnett
And one "The Highland and Isles of Scotland" by WC Mackenzie.
Which is a refreshing change from the Touristy and Romantic image that is the norm from books on the Isles.
Here are two sites you may find of Interest
I know the house was up for sale a while ago for £130.000
I will see what I can come up with on other books on the land raid in the twenties
