What District in Glasgow is McFarlane Street?.....

Post by winslowsmom » Wed Nov 16, 2005 8:38 am

What District in Glasgow might 15 McFarlalne Street be?

In a day or two I will go on line at Scotlands People to search for a death of JOHN MCDONALD. I found him alive as my Mom's granny's nearest kin on a ships passenger manifest when they arrived in Boston, Massachusetts.
At that time (Sept 1928) he was living at 15 McFarlane Street, Glasgow, and would be about 73 years of age.
If someone were able to tell me what districts to search it would be a great help. I know his parents are Wm McDonald and Janet Jeffrey, with knowing 1928 and after, also knowing a possible district could really narrow it down some.
Thank you

The current McFarlane Street is found just off the Gallowgate in the Calton district of the city.

There were 2 other McFarlane Streets in the past:

M'Farlane Street, Port Dundas is now Broadford Street,

M'Farlane Street, Springburn was changed to Syriam Street,

I don't know at what times these may have changed.

Thank you Wilma

I will start with looking in Calton - as it happens that is where many addresses associated with this John McDonald and his family are.
