In an OPR I have a relative residing in Arquhail,Rosshire.
Had a Google but zero results.
Anyone know where it is? or is it a mis-spelling of somewhere
John

Try the Scots Origins site at http://www.originsnetwork.com/ and play about putting in just parts of the name and variant spellings.JohnGlass wrote:In an OPR I have a relative residing in Arquhail,Rosshire.

Hi John
A list of parishes for Ross & Cromarty is on Genuki:
http://www.genuki.org.uk:8080/big/sct/ROC/index.html
...but I don't see anything likely - is this a place name within Parish? If so, do you know which Parish its in? - this would narrow it down a bit as Rosshire is quite a big area.
Do you have an image you could upload of the OPR entry?
If not, can you give us the place name in the context that it appears in the OPR entry?
Sorry, lots of questions...
Hmmm, very long shot...same kinda shape - it couldn't be Urquhart could it?
best wishes
Lesley

Thanks David and Lesley
Urquhart was also our guess and I'm hoping thats right.
The OPR's were in Rothesay for a marriage and I do not have a copy unfortunately as it was transcribed (maybe incorrectly)by someone who sent it to me and I have lost the contact info.
" Archibald Glass Merchany in Rothesay, son of Finlay Glass residing in Arquhail Rosshire and Christina Kilpatrick daughter of William Kilpatrick Flesher,Rothesay.Booked 3 Nov,Married 7 Nov 1848"
