Post by lomand » Thu Jun 22, 2006 10:22 pm

Hi , Need some kind person to give me some info on Old Monkland/ Blantyre/ Shettleston. My great, greatGRANDPARENTS LIVED THERE IN 1863. James Paterson and Sarah McNiven. Ithink they would have been quite well off as James was i mining engineer. Does anybody have any info please. Cheers...Jan. Searching the names, Paterson, McNiven, McShane, Anderson, Drummond, Graham.

Hello Jan

Liz just posted a link to Glasgow Digital Library that may be of interest to you. The "book" Scotland in the nineteenth century has some information on Mining.

Putting the place names in Google comes up with a lot of information. Is there something specific you are looking to find ?
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings
