Kelso.....
I'm searching for Robert Kelso, born 1843 in Saltcoats, and died 1923 in Glasgow. He married Mary McPherson in 1869, and later married an Elizabeth Miller or Millar, after Mary's death in 1885. Robert and Mary had six children: Alexander, Robert, Mary, Catherine, Janet, and Elizabeth, all born between 1870 and 1880. Robert was a son of Alexander and Elizabeth Miller Kelso; Mary McPherson was the daughter of Alexander and Janet Fairley McPherson.

Hi Sheryl
...and warm welcome to TalkingScot
So that we know what sort of info you are looking for, when you say you are searching for Robert Kelso, is it his birth you are stuck with?
Have you seen the family on any census? Or is it some other aspect of his life you are curious about?
Best wishes
Lesley

Robert Kelso
Hi, Lesley. We are looking for any information on this family. Alexander, the oldest, came to the States in 1894. He is my husband's grandfather. To our knowledge, he is the only one to leave Scotland, and we would love to know if there are relatives out there, anywhere, as my husband is the last surviving Kelso to bear the name (we have three daughters). Also, we have had no success in tracking this particular Mary McPherson - the information I have came from their marriage certificate and bits and pieces from census and LDS records. We do not know if Alex ever communicated with family after he left Scotland. Sheryl

Hi Sheryl
Looking for the the family in the census woudl certainly seem worthwhile (1851- 1901) These can be found online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - a pay per view site.
Both his marriages and his death should also be able to be found there. His marriage and death records would give some indication of his parents' names. If you can find Mary's death in 1885, that should give you her parents' names. There is one Mary Kelso, other name Mcpherson who died in 1885 in Lanark(shire) on Scotlands People.
Could this be him with his family in 1881?

Hi Sheryl
Well ...you could take up that popular sport I'm sure a few of us here indulge in - fishing on SP
As long as you make full use of the free search, it need not be an expensive sport,
and that surname probably ensures you are in with a good chance of making at least some successful catches - its way more difficult with Smiths, Rosses and the like!!
Happy hunting

Hi Sheryl
I don't know if any of the McKenzies from Roseneath went to Pennsylvania. Sorry, can't be of any help with that one. My Margaret McKenzie, b.1799 daughter of Janet McCunn from Barbour & John McKenzie from Cursnoch, both in Roseneath, only made it as far as Bonhill!
Before John McKenzie b.abt 1760, d. 1845 Roseneath, I don't know any further back with that branch of the McKenzies.
Best wishes

As well as possible living relatives descended from Robert, Mary, Catherine, Janet, and Elizabeth, there may also be such living descendants descended from the other children of Alexanded KELSO and Elizabeth MILLER, - the 1851 and 1861 census entries will give details of these children, but watch out for a re-marriage of Alexander following Elizabeth's early death.......
Tracing forward in the Scottish records is straightforward, but you will need to visit Edinburgh or use a researcher in Scotland to get right forward to the present day records.
Of the 4 daughters of Robert and Mary the deaths of 2 are easy to locate at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk , and one was married, altho' the other was single.........

Re: Kelso
Hi Sheryl,
David is right - there might be a few more living descendants about,
and ½ cousins too through your Robert's father Alexander's 2nd marriage.
If this is Alexander below, then i suspect Margaret KELSO 18 might not actually be his daur.
Her name possibly being Margaret CARRICK born 1860, St. Ninians, Stirlingshire to Helen CARRICK.
But seems she's as Margaret O'HARA on the 1861 census in Hutchesontown with her mother Helen.
(covering my back...this is all a bit of guesswork...)
The other 3 children though are Alexender's and Helen's.
