Has anyone undertaken any research about covenanters in Glassford (or Lanarkshire generally)?
Apart from the standard historical texts, what current genealogical research is available? Is there an historical society consecrated to the study of covenanters in Lanarkshire?
I am specifically interested in Gavin Paterson of Nethershields and the process against him for treason for participating in the 1679 rebellion.

Suggest that you have a look at ........

There are many books about the Covenanters, some of which have biographies of the most prominent. Any good library should have some, and be able to obtain others via inter-library loans.
If he was tried in Scotland that NASshould have a record, or TNA if tried in England.

Hi David
Thanks so much for your reply and for the link. It's a most interesting site that I wasn't aware of. Yes, I do have copies of documents from the NAS relating to the process against Gavin Paterson, which I'm progressively deciphering as they're written in old secretary hand. Not an easy task, I assure you. The Privy Council has a lot to answer for -- not least their scribes.
