Anybody reseaching people from these places?.....
Similar I suppose to the idea on "Ancestral Villages" www.ancestral-villages.co.uk , I was wondering if anybody was researching folk from some of the small villages/towns that feature in my tree e.g. Whitehouse in Argyll, Leslie in Fife and Earlston in Berwick. There might be ways we can help each other e.g. additional folk mentioned on certificates or sources of information etc. If anybody wants to add their areas of interest - go ahead. If it is a small enough place there might be a good chance of a connection. What do you all think?

I guess it's a new site.
As soon as I had read your post I went ahunting, but found nobody in any of my ancestor's villages.
(Suppose someone has to start!) That probably discouraged me, so I didn't get back to you.
Sorry.
It could be interesting once lots of people are involved.
Best wishes

Hi mallog,
I have already added some Argyll villages. I though it was a good idea too, clicked on your link, and added the villages I have ancestors from. Mainly those on Luing island, but others as well.
Haven't added the actual ancestors yet, but will do as soon as I dig out all those I have listed.

Between 3.11 and 7.08 pm on a Sunday is when you either walk off (dragging the poor dog too) or sleep off the Sunday lunch
isnt it

The site has been around for a while. I did look at it ages ago and it still doesnt "grab my attention" and make me want to use it - dont know why. The "make a donation" (financial) puts me off slightly as well.
You could add the place name after the sir name your looking for on here ?

Ancestral Villages seems to be in its infancy and I think will be ok when it gets going but it didn't really have much to do with what I was saying. (It was just an illustration and I haven't posted on it either
And I was asking if anyone thought this was a worthwhile exercise? My 2nd post was referring to that not the fact that there was no one looking at Whitehouse etc. (I'm beginning to think all my folk lived in a parallel universe anyway

Hi Mallog
I got the gist of what you were proposing and thought it a nifty idea but Jean got in first with requests for the 1901 census so my own tree got priority over your answer.
With small villages you could build up quite a picture of the local names as well as pick up other family inter-marriages.
I've been looking at Kilrenny & Cellardyke and discovered that everybody was related to everybody else, at least that's the way it seems on a limited number of names that keep coming up.
Kilbarchan was down to about 6 or 8 family names by the late 1800's and to fall out with a neighbour meant you didn't speak to your aunties cousin or your sister's mother-in-law. Even now its not safe to pass a comment about certain families.
Anybody linked to the Lapraiks in Sorn ???
