Pockelly Village - Where was it?

Post by John Wilson » Tue Oct 10, 2006 8:24 am

In the 1881 census a great uncle was living at Pockelly Village which was in the Carnwath parish. About 1892 my New Zealand grandfather, in a list of his relatives' names and addresses had his brother's address as:
94 Tarbrax, Cobbinshaw. By Carnwath, Lanarkshire.
I understand Cobbinshaw was in the county of West Calder and that Pockley Village might have been near Cobbinshaw - perhaps the county/parish boundaries were close?

I would be v. grateful if anyone could help me with information about Pockley Village and/or the 94 Tarbrax, Cobbinshaw address.

Hi John
I have come across Pokelly a few times in my researches.
Here is one of the sites.

There is a place in Fenwick, called Pokelly Hill.

If you go to Old Maps, and choose "Co-ordinate" then enter 463804, 486006, and enlarge with the No.1 button, you'll see Pockley village.
