Where is this ?

Post by Tracey » Thu Dec 21, 2006 11:09 pm

This birth place - the one above South Stirling - is supposedly in Scotland but although it is written clearly enough i just dont know what it is saying. Any help appreciated when the image i have uploaded becomes visable.

Hi Tracey,

Was this written outside of Scotland? My feeling is that it says Concarden (Kincardine?). Is the person from South Stirling in the same family group? This could be Kincardine, Perthshire, only a few miles from Stirling.

All the best,

Andrew

Hi Andrew

Yes now you say it i can see it but further down the page if the same person wrote it there is a perfect C in County. The manifest was for a ship sailing from Liverpool to Boston so i suppose written in Liverpool ?

Hi Tracy,
Not too sure what you are looking for here.
However the Alexander Harvie Geddes comes frae a well kent Glasgow Family.

Hi Davie, neither am i yet !
I found our elusive Bessie Geddes on a few of Ancestry's ship lists. On them she is travelling with or going to husband Alexander Geddes. The two births above are the only ones on SP that fit the bill (not allowing for fibs) assuming the place name i cant understand is in Glasgow. This Alexander and Bessie lived in Rhode Island and he was a storekeeper.

I just got in from work and will read through the links in a bit.

Many thanks

Again Tracy,
I had another wee look at the entry.
While it looks like Cowcaddens, I would doubt if anyone from Glasgow would give the district rather than the town or village.
As far as I an aware The Cowcaddens was never a village but only a district.
If you let me know the date of the Ships entry I may be able to throw more light on it for you.
Awrabest
