hi all i have relatives who on the1881 census were staying at Kilbirnie station ,simpsons land Dalry does anyone here with local knowledge know where this place was.

Confusingly Kilbirnie had 2 stations 
They were on 2 different railway lines, one North South which was probably Lochside station [ nearer Kilbirnie Loch than the town]
The other seemed to be part of a loop - Kilbarchan ?

Can't find Kilbirnie Station but if you zoom in on Dalry you will find the neighbouring addresses of Kersland House and Auchengree from the 1881 census.

Confusingly, in modern day terms, a town such as Kilbirnie could have two different stations if competing railway companies were covering the same route.
In this case the competing companies were Glasgow and South Western Railway (line now closed) and Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway, which is the main line still in use today.
Just to confuse matters further, - and I'm not sure of the details here, - a station could be some way, even a mile of more, from the placename used, - see above for the link that gives the info that one of the stations was first known as "Glengarnock and Kilbirnie", - I pass it regularly, long since just known as Glengarnock station, a full mile from Kilbirnie!

Kersland House is 5 miles NE of Dalry, just on the SE outskirts of Beith.
