James and Janet (Boll) Pollick

Have a death certificate of Hugh Sterling Pollock, an ancestor who died in Jersey City NJ which shows his father's name James Pollock and his mother's first name only Janet. They were from Renfrewshire near Paisley or Glasgow - actually Williamsborough which no longer exists.

A helpful guy on the internet suggested the James and Janet (Boll) Pollick marriage on 12 Apr 1795 is a close match and I should try to confirm. The marriage took place in Eaglesham, and one of their sons Alexander was born 1 Jan 1800 which may make this connection a possibility time and place wise.

Anyone with Boll or Pollick or Pollock in their trees? If some one can look up IGI to identify some or all of their children, I would be grateful. Thanks.

I may be way off here, but his name is quite distinctive.

The only HUGH STIRLING POLLOK I could find on IGI was born 04 AUG 1845 Mearns, Renfrew, Scotland

(Bearing in mind the stressful situation of registering a death, maybe the informant got her name wrong?)

I'm thinking these are probably two different couples and the birthdates of the children above would seem to confirm that.

Williamsburgh does still exist! it's part of Paisley and the primary School is still called Williamsburgh [ it was a rather good school if my memory serves me].

It's current location is to the east of Paisley town:
roughly the square enclosed by Glasgow Road, Hawkhead Road, Seedhill Road and Mill Street.

The post code PA1 1QF in www.multimap.com will give you the area now
and as an address in www.old-maps.co.uk will give you the 1864 map. There was an militia barracks there then.
