Seems like every channel is now trying to catch onto the Family History bug in a way. This time it is Channel four with "Face of Britain" at 8pm tonight/
Quote from the telly mag:
"Who are our ancestors and how far do the faces of the regions carry the hostory of the nation's ancient tribes? Archaeologist Neil Oliver sets out to find out, revealing the results of a groundbreaking DNA study carried out by Oxford University, and travelling to southwest England and Wales to trace clues left by the Celts"
So will anyone be watching this tonight? I won't be for the simple reason that Doctor Who is on around that time on the other channel.

I might catch the last half hour of it.
Andy

I watched this programme last night (really must get out more on Saturday evenings) - must admit it was enthralling. The episode was covering DNA results for Cornwall and Wales in relation to their Celt origins. For me it would be more relevant to watch when it gets around to Scotland - but nevertheless an interesting and informative viewing.

Sorry I missed this it sounded quite interesting, although I would have had to wrestle the wife for the remote control if it was on at the same time as Dr. Who.
I've been reading up on the theory that the Celts/Scots are descended from the lost tribes of Israel does anyone believe there is any mileage in this idea?

Of course we are
The Scots came to Scotland via North Africa and Spain, hence the similarlity of the early Celtic church to the Coptic church; along the way picking up Jacob's Pillow which became the Stone of Destiny; and somewhere along the line the princess Scotia came into the situation, - I'm unclear if she was Spanish, or Irish of Spanish descent .........
Aye weel
What is undeniable are Scottish links to Ireland, and possibly beyond that to the Iberian peninsula, and perhaps North Africa

........................
What is fascinating, tho', is the route by which Christianity arrived in Scotland, as it certainly wasn't via England, and middle Europe.......

Yes there must be something in it the many references can not be coincidental.
Scotii or Scota was either the daughter of Moses or the Pharaoh. As you know the declaration of Arbroath mentions the Scynthians and the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. After the 12 tribes of Israel split into 10 & 2 the 10 northern tribes where invaded by the Assyrians and dissappeared (the lost tribes) it is believed they went on to colonise Europe including Troy (in Greece) and Scynthia (Southern Russia) curiously the disciple Andrew is said to have preached to the Scynthians and he became the patron Saint of Greece, Russia and Scotland. There was then a dispute between the two southern tribes of Israel on the birth right to the line of David when Judah was giving birth to twins. Zara's hand came forth from the womb first and a red cord was put round the bloody hand however Pharez (breach) pulled the hand back and was born first stealing the birth right. Eventually the followers of Zara went into exile in (H)Iberia (land of the Hebrew) and set up a settlement at Zaragossa (Zara's Stronghold) they were eventually pushed out of Spain and settled in Hibernia (the new land of the Hebrew). They brought with them Jeremiah's harp (which became the symbol of Hibernia) and Jacob's Pillow (Stone of Destiny). It is said the picts then landed in Hibernia and the Israelites directed them to Scotland where they settled. You know the rest the Scots were pushed north by the Gauls settling in Ulster (the bloody red hand of Zara became the symbol of Ulster) They then expanded into Argyle and Strathclyde eventually uniting with the Picts. The standard of the tribe of Judah was the lion which became the rampant red lion when they went into exile rampant to show their readiness to fight and red in honour of Zarah's blood, this became the Standard of Scotland.
It's interesting stuff and there is lots of information on the net it is all very confusing I am still trying to draw it all together.
