RED HOUSE

Post by wini » Sun Apr 29, 2007 7:50 am

In 1903 Christina McDonald was married, her address was Red House,
Gillsland Road Edinburgh. Another domestic Servant
In the 1901 Census there are 16 Christina MDonalds in Edinburgh.
Guessing that she may have been in service at RedHouse in 1901.
My question is "What district would that have been?"
It will help me narrow down the Christinas.
I googled Red House.it now appears to be the HQ of the Scottish Rugby Union.

Hi Wini,

The address that you found on Google is that of one of the SRU officials, not the SRU HQ itself, which is at Murrayfield Stadium. Other Google articles point to it being a number of flats. It is probably a large villa, now split into flats. It is most likely built of red sandstone, hence its name, and may well be similar to its neighbour across the road - see picture in the web page below.

I pass there quite often and can picture the one on the web page, but not the one you are looking for. I will have a better look next time I am passing there.

All the best,

AndrewP

It should be in 685/01 - St George
or 685/05 - Newington.

Thank You Andrew,

That will help me find her instead of taking pot luck at the 16 Christina McDonalds.
