Barholm House & Lodge, Creetown, Dumfries & Galloway

Post by juliewood » Tue Jun 05, 2007 9:42 pm

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has any information on Barholm House & in particular Barholm Lodge, Creetown. I am tracing my family tree and my GGGrandmother Stewart Waddell, nee Murray, lived there from 1864 to her death in 1872. I was wondering how she would come to be living there, she was a widow at the time. Her Husband William Waddell was a stoneware merchant and so I was wondering if he could have supplied the stone to build the estate or know the family in some way. I am still struggling to find any further information on him as he is in Aberdeen in 1851 Census but nowhere on the 1861 census & Stewart is then a widow who eventually moves to the Lodge. Does anyone know where I could find a list of people who worked there or who the family were?

Hope someone can help me.

Thanks
Julie

Hi Julie,

Unfortunately, I don't have the information you're looking for but this looks interesting...have you seen it?

I don't know if this is the area your ancestors might have lived but might be worth looking into. Barholm seems to have had quite an interesting history and renewal. Maybe if you enquired with the Historical Society in the area they might be able to fill you in a bit.
