hi there,
has anyone heard of a place called brownhead? its suppose to be in the argyle/bute area, im trying to track down a robert scott born c 1745 ,known as" scott of brownhead "apparentley he was a land owner and had them seized during the jacobite war, he then moved out of scotland to devon, he is apparently the grt grt grandfather of the famous explorer robert falcon scott .
so i would be very grateful if anyone can find out some info on this so i can pass on to the family

On the old maps.co.uk site I put in Brownhead and it gave me 3 options but all were for Townhead, Argyll.
Perhaps someone else in the area will know if there is a Brownhead.

Hi Krissy
My geography of Scotland isnt what it used to be
, but it wouldnt be too far from Ardrossan to Argyll going across the waters, and Bute was reasonably close. But hopefully someone with a bit better knowledge of geography can confirm this.
Speaking of geography I had a look at an old atlas of mine and didnt realise that it had the new counties of Scotland
so it shows how much attention I took to the book
