Hoardweel Farm, Bunkle and Preston, Berwickshire

Post by theKiwi » Fri Aug 24, 2007 2:44 am

Is there anyone here who knows anything of the history of Hoardweel Farm. It's located on the A6112 between Preston and Grantshouse.

My great great great grandfather worked there in the early 1800s. I visited there myself in 2000 and met the owner, but at that time they had not long owned the farm, so knew little of its history.

I'm guessing there are probably some olde books that would have information about the farm in it, but have no idea where to start looking.

Who were the owners - had it remained in one family for a long time, or changed hands often?

Thanks for any insights anyone might have.

Roger

Hi Roger
I'd be tempted to contact local archives, museums and libraries or perhaps a "Local History Society" in the area, if you have not done all of these already!

Scottish Borders Archive and Local History Centre at the Heritage Hub in Hawick

I'm not familiar with the area, so sorry, I can't be of more help here!

Best wishes
Lesley
