Hi Annette:

BMD registrations are the responsibility of the provinces, but prior to compulsory registration, the churches or cemetary records are likely to be your best bet ........ Have you had a look at this site?

Hi Frances,

Well that was a laugh    My last French lesson was about 40 years ago -

Took me about 5 minutes to choose my country (Royaume Uni)- I've often heard it said on the Eurovision Song Contest but did I know how to spell it?

Anyway it looks a really interesting site - hopefully Karen will have a browse.

Best wishes,
Annette

 Oh, Annette, I didn't even think

Like you, it's been a long time since I studied French, but I see it everyday. Canada is officially bilingual - some parts more so than others - but all government docs and ads are posted in both languages and it is required on all packaging.

You manage to keep your hand in, reading the French until you come to a word you don't recognize and then flip to the 'English' side

Annette, I am not sure that the family came in 1841... that is from an aunt who has since died. Maybe her information was incoorect. I will be checking.

As to the other site http://www.islandnet.com/~jveinot/cghl/quebec.html

I have been to that one before and have found the daughter Mary harriet and the son born in Canada Alexander's baptisms but nothing about the father Alexander's death.

Thanks again!
