Hi Liz,
Who was the informant for Catherine's death? Anyone we know?
I'm assuming Robert died before 1851, which is a pity, since there don't appear to be any surviving death records for either Morton, Dumfries or Old Monkland.
All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Should have included that as it was James Hamilton son-in-law!

Regards
Liz

Hi Liz,
Too bad it wasn't a McConnon relative! Have you found Catherine in 1841 & 1851? If that's not her as Catherine Gracie, then I haven't found her in either one of those censuses.
[cheers]
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
No I can't find any trace of her or Robert Mcghie in 1841 or 51 Census. Its very frustrating

I think this is Margaret in 1881 -

Dwelling: 19 Cumbernauld Rd
Census Place: Barony, Lanark, Scotland
Source: FHL Film 0203639 GRO Ref Volume 644-3 EnumDist 45 Page 14
Marr Age Sex Birthplace
John MILLER M 50 M New Monklands, Lanark, Scotland
Rel: Head
Occ: Joiner
Margaret MILLER M 53 F East Morton Thorn Hill, Dumfries, Scotland
Rel: Wife
Occ: Joiner Wife

Unfortunately there is only a submission for the marriage but there is a child born to this couple.
Just wondered what it might say on her death entry.

Regards,
Annette M

Nice one Annette! I saw Jane and Margaret in 1841 and agree that must be them. Robert and Catherine was a clever find! I hope Liz will get back and tell us whether there was a son Thomas in the family... Oh! I see you have come back with a birth record-- brilliant! :D

Here is Janet in 1851 (and look at the middle name of the head of household

Hawy's Land, New Dundyvan, Old Monkland, Lanark
Jane Gracie Brown, 79, Head, born Penpont, Dumfries, Grocer
Elisa W Brown, 41, Daughter, born Moffat, Dumfries, Grocer
Janet McGee, 19, Servant, born Morton, Dumfries, House Servant

All the best,
Sarah

Nobody appears to have the middle name McConnon in this lot

Here's Margaret in 1851, who is getting younger:

Lamsden Land, Old Monkland, Lanark
John Hill, 29, Head, born Barony, Lanarkshire, Master Wright Employing C Man
Helen Hill, 24, Wife, born Barony, Lanarkshire, Master Wright Employing C Man Wife
Margaret McGhee, 20, Servant, born Morton, Dumfriesshire, House Servant
Mary Anderson, 16, Servant, born Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, House Servant

Jane Gracie was born 21 Jun 1771 Penpont, Dumfries
Father: John Gracie
Mother: Jean Ker

The mother of Katherine McConnon was ALSO Jean Kerr  Well, I know it's a common name, but... :!: no. I can't see poor Jean Kerr having Jane in 1771, then marrying John McConnon and having Katherine in 1799. Pushing it a bit to have 28 years of childbearing-- although possible?
