Hello Barbara,

The funny thing about Alma the man is that his middle name, Charles, according to a WorldConnect entry, was actually his mother’s maiden name rather than a masculine name but he did marry a woman by the name of Smith.

Couldn’t get anywhere with Maycock, was even thinking McCook but couldn’t get anywhere there either.

According to the SP home page name search there were only 20 Maycock statutory events in Scotland, on Free BMD there are 7,887 Maycock events in England/Wales over a much lesser time period. Please check that because it sounds a bit unbelievable but that makes the odds well in excess of 400:1 that this Maycock is English.

For what it’s worth there’s a place called Harling in Norfolk. I even had thoughts of Scotia drifting through my mind. How clearly is Scotland written and is it written in full or abbreviated?

Here’s the info re the 1911 England/Wales census release. If I’m reading it correctly the very basic information currently available for 45 Pounds will be on line next year presumably for a very much lesser amount. In either case the personal genealogical info you’re after may not be available until 2012. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/docu ... an2007.pdf

Will check re 2009 release details,
Alan

Alan,

Any idea why these things cost 45 pounds? That is the most painful of all the prices I've come across yet for records!

Hello Carol,

I think they must be into pain or they’re trying to discourage people from applying. I think I’d rather wait for 12 months or so until it’s online.

I just checked that 2009 release. The National Archives info is very vague referring to “most fields” being made available and “personally sensitive” information not being made available.

After a quick look at the FOI decision the Incapacity column will certainly be hidden and possibly also the relationship column plus maybe references to people in particular institutions but all the rest seems okay by them.

Alan

By the way Carol,

Have you seen the number of Articles at the bottom of the TS Index Page, does this mean the Jackpot’s about to go off?
