Hi Katrina,

Relationships shown are to the head of the househiold, so Jane Cowan, the step-daughter of James Muir, so is presumably the daughter of Agnes by a previous marriage.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Katrina,

Because of the different birthplaces in the censuses, and the common name, it is especially important to find out who his parents were. That should (one hopes!) help pinpoint which is his birth. The second marriage certificate should have this information. Let us know what the certificate says, when you get it! I'm curious...

From the 1861 census it looks as though they had at least three children who survived until 1861: James, Janet and John. It's hard to know without checking all the Muirs born in Ayr between 1855 and 1861 (24 of them) whether they had any more before Margaret's death.

Best wishes,
Sarah

Hello All,

James Muir, and Margaret Reid, had a son Andrew Muir, born 1856, Ayr.

Looks like he died young.

I just wonder if James Muir, Senior, father was Andrew Muir, thats three in the family that i count.

Regards,
Jonn.

Hi John,
It certainly seems logical that James' father could be an Andrew. They certainly keep cropping up!

Sarah

Hello Katrina,

What i meant with the three Andrew's, James Muir, And Margaret Reid, had a son named Andrew, born 1856.

James Muir, and Agnes McWilliam's, had a son named Andrew.

And James Muir, and Elizabeth Mclellan, also had a son named Andrew.

Therefore i was going on the point the name seemed important in the family, so its possible it may be the first name of his father.

Have you checked the marriage of James Muir, and Agnes McWilliam, to see if its maybe a second marriage for James Muir, after his wife died.

Regards,
Jonn.

Hi Katrina,

(copied from other topic on this family)

Change of mind...

At the time I looked for James Muir's death, his second marriage had not been found. Now that we have the second marriage, to Agnes McWilliam, I have gone back to the three death certificates I looked at. Forget the 1875 one in the lunatic asylum. He is the 1877 death, as husband of Agnes McWilliam. The father's name is not given, but the mother is there as Jane Muir M.S. Park (deceased).

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Katrina,

Forget 1875 lunatic asylum death (that was based on available information when marriage #2 was unknown).

You want 1877, Ayr (29 Carrick Street), husband of Agnes McWilliam.

All the best,

Andrew
