Hi Katrina,
Have you tried surname variations for Muir. There are many possibilities as names were usually spelt phonetically at that time and the spelling of both forenames and surnames was really at the whim of whoever was recording the infomation due to most of our relatives being unable to read or write. Just because you find 1 document with a form or the name don't assume all will be spelt the same way. Take my Queate's for example... Queate, Quate, Quete, Quade, McQuad I could go on for ages and its all 1 family of 5 people over the years on different census and BMDs My favorite is Meate. Guess the census taker in Lochwinnoch had a wee problem with my great great grandfathers Irish accent. :D
To give you some ideas of possible spellings you can try visit this site...

As for storing and displaying your tree try Legacy from LDS family search. Its free and very user friendly and the standard download ( I never bothered to upgrade as I get all I need from this) has some great displays.
Happy Hunting,
HeatherH

Hi all
As for storing and displaying your tree try Legacy from LDS family search
Just to avoid any confusion, there are two programs there!
Legacy can be found at www.legacyfamilytree.com

Personal Ancestral File can be found on the LDS site at:
www.familysearch.org ...go to Order/Download Products then Software Downloads
Both the above are free programs.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi and thanks for information, yes I have tried many varients of the spelling as app depending on where the family lived also related to the way the surname was spelt,i.e. in my case moore appears to be more highland and muir more ayrshire.this I have discovered on my certificates.but thank you anyway.kind regards katrina

I think written, then a line through it and newton - ayr written). signed by his mum well she made her mark and then mother after that i havent a clue what it says.
Well isn't that a wretched cert to read!

But I take it that he was born in Cambeltown, but that his parents were married
1867 November 26th, Newton – Ayr

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Katrina
signed by his mum well she made her mark and then mother after that i havent a clue what it says.
I make it John M Isaac, Registrar, witness. (he has witnessed her making her mark - this is the usual practice)

Best wishes
Lesley

Well i think the mothers name is McLellan, the Mc. part is not that clear but lellan, is quite clear.

We all know that by following this story over lots of threads, that the couple were married on 22/Nov/1867. Ayr, Ayr. and their previous children link in to James Muir, the Butcher, and Elizabeth McLellan, then i would say thats who Malcolms, parents were.

Regards,
Jonn.
