my sincere apologies - I got so busy I never thought to reply and I haven't logged on for a while. In the meantime, I have traced (with help from people on this site) the descendants of Charles Mitchell and am in touch with his grandson and family. We've spent the Summer exchanging letters and photographs and marvelling at the family resemblances. I've been so excited with all of this that I totally forgot anything else. Now that I'm down off cloud 9 (!) my Bowman connection is via one Mary Bowman who married my g.g.g.g.grandfather, Peter Mitchell in Crathie around 1900. They had a large family including William (father of the aforementioned Charles and my direct ancestor). I'm unclear about Mary Bowman's background - she turns out not to be who I thought she was originally. Where do your Bowmans hail from?

Regards

Tish
I think I'm probably guilty of doing much the same - too many irons in the fire at one time in my case. I have a bunch of my own forums to try and maintain.

Anyhow, 'my' BOWMAN:

Barbara Bird BOWMAN (daughter of Samuel BOWMAN and Agnes Helen MILLER) was born on 8 Feb 1844 in Longside, Aberdeenshire. She married James Cardno MASSIE in Fraserburgh.
Crathie and Aberdeen are not by present day standards any great distance apart, but in those days .....?
I've never really researched the name to any degree - always 'going to get round to it'

If anyone is in that area and by chance comes across the grave, I'd love to know the inscription and/or have a photograph (Presuming there is a headstone, of course). also would still like anyone to guess where a gamekeeper might have been employed in Tansfield or thereabouts.
Thanks
Tish
Have you
a) got anyone yet to do photos?
b) got the precise location down to the provision of some kind of map of the cemetery?
c) the full name as might be inscribed, if there is a stone?

I'm disabled (need my wheelchair at times), so cannot go blundering off into any wilderness. However, if I can go straight to the 'spot', I could try and get some pics though at this moment in time, I'm not even sure where the cemetery is.

I went and found Olrig Cemetery this afternoon - no joy on the first look - I think you will need to give me more direct information.
To view some pics from there, please go to:

James,

Sorry again (!) for the late reply - I've been away on holidays and studying for exams so I haven't even looked at any of my messages. Happily now all over and as winter has arrived here in earnest this week, I am now back at my obsession - family history! I'm afraid I don't know anymore than what I've said, that it's Lair 94 - His widow left the area when he died so possibly the headstone was never erected / inscribed. Thanks for the interest you have shown - I always get embarassed when people help as I can't return the favour - Ireland is so difficult to search in and as my Irish lot all came from one small piece of the West of Ireland I don't have far to go!!

Regards and happy hunting!

I've just come out of hospital after a stay of nearly 2 months. I can't see how I can help any further gor the forseeable future, certainly without more direct instructions et.
