Hi Daryl,

Here is my attempt at transcribing the death certificate.
  • John McDonald, Wood-Sawyer (Journeyman); (Married to Margaret Young)
    1874 May Second _H 30M A.M.; 26 Melville Street, Glasgow
    M
    _8 Years
David McDonald, Joiner (deceased); Mary McDonald, M.S. Kennedy (deceased)
    _____________ of _____ (8 days); Cert by _ ______, Surgeon
    Margaret McDonald, Widow, present
1874 May 2nd At Glasgow; James Tait, Assistant Registrar
It would be worth your while filling in a Contact Form on the ScotlandsPeople telling them that parts of this certificate are illegible. They should send you a freshly scanned copy that will be much clearer.

All the best,

AndrewP

That's better now thanks Andrew.

well better in that we can see the image  reading it is another matter!

I'll say First of May 1874 and his mother was Mary Kennedy and his father's name started with a D

but I'm struggling....

Hi Andrew,

Well done! I spent ages trying to decipher it earlier today. I will report to SP about the quality of it, as you suggested.

Thanks again,

Daryl :D

Hi,

I think the cause of death could be 'Congestion of the Brain'. The first word looks similar to the congestion written for the third record on the page.

Best wishes

I think the father may be Donald McDonald
'Congestion of the Brain'
Looks good, Brian - I think it might be just Congestion of Brain

Is the medical informant somebody Murray? Surgeon

Best wishes
Lesley
