This is what I did:
On scotlandspeople.gov.uk
Choose: Statutory Registers: Deaths 1855-2006
Surname: Hunt
Forename: David Drummond
Year Range: 1885 to 1885
Birth year: 1881
County/City/Minor Records: Glasgow City
District: Govan

However, if you put his two forenames, there is no need to indicate year range, birth year, county or district. He is the only David Drummond Hunt who died in Scotland between 1855 and 2006! Let me know if the record still doesn't come up.

Then it looks like the one I found in 1851 was the correct one.

On Mary Middleton Hunt's 1942 death cert, what is her mother's first name? She was ______ Drummond (later Dawson)?

All the best,
Sarah

Hi all,
With the confirmation that I was on the track of the correct Angus Middleton, I've been on a Middleton "hunt" over morning coffee. Here are the meager results:

I see that there is a submission on the IGI for the birth of Angus Middleton and his many siblings in Irvine, Ayr. Searching for Middleton in Irvine gave me the family in 1841, although when searching for Angus himself that record doesn't come up. Hmmm. Some problem with Ancestry's search function.

Here they are in 1841:

East Back Road, Irvine, Ayrshire
John Middleton, 53, born Ayrshire, Muslin H L W
Jean Middleton, 45, born Ayrshire
Elizabeth Middleton, 25, born Ayrshire, Muslin Sewer
George Middleton, 23, born Ayrshire, Muslin H L W
Alexander Middleton, 17, born Ayrshire, Ap Taylor
Margaret Middleton, 14, born Ayrshire, Muslin Sewer
Angus Middleton, 11, born Ayrshire
John Middleton, 7, born Ayrshire
Jean Middleton, 5, born Ayrshire
Matthew Middleton, 3 , born Ayrshire

By 1851 Jean is alone, presumably a widow:

Townhead St, Irvine, Ayrshire
Jean Middleton, 56, Head, born Irvine, Ayrshire
Elizabeth Middleton, 34, Daughter, born Irvine, Ayrshire, Muslin Sewer
George Middleton, 32, Son, born Irvine, Ayrshire, Hand Loom Weaver (muslin)
John Middleton, 18, Son, born Irvine, Ayrshire, Apprentice Pemter
Jean Middleton, 16, Daughter, born Irvine, Ayrshire, Muslin Sewer
Matthew Middleton, 11, Son, born Irvine, Ayrshire, Scholar

Margaret Middleton, 22, is a house servant in the Rolle household. The head is J B Rolle, a "Gentleman Officiating As Minister To A Genall Congregation Of Baptists At Kilwinning"

In 1861, a search for Middleton born in Irvine comes up with only:
1) Alexander, who is now a tailor in Glasgow
2) Matthew, a 58 yr old house painter (could he be an uncle?)
3) A 7 yr old John in Dalry, who is the nephew of William and Margaret Gibson. Looks like another illegitimate child of one of Margaret's brothers?

Where did they all go? From my vantage point (I'm sitting here in Minnesota, looking 360 degrees around me to all of the states and Canada  ) I can't see any of them. So, the obvious conclusion is that some of our members Down Under should be able to catch a glimpse :D Anyone want to give it a try?

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
Got David's death, putting too much detail I think.
Mary was Mary's mother. I'll have a look for a second
marriage with Dawson
Thanks for the info. Cheers Jack

I had a look around under here Sarah but couldn’t find anything inspiring.

But the www seems very slow today and I keep nodding off while waiting so maybe that’s the problem.

All the best,
Alan

Hi everyone,
Is the Angus Middleton in the1851 census aged 20 the same guy in the 1841 census aged 11? I'm fairly sure the 1851 guy is my relation. All the best, Jack

Hi Jack,
There are just not that many Angus Middletons around (you got lucky on that name!). The one I found was the only one born in Ayrshire at the right time. I wouldn't worry about the age being 1 year off-- happens all the time!

Thanks for looking, Alan. Where could that entire family have gone?

All the best,
Sarah

jackiem wrote: Her father was Angus Middleton and her mother's MS was Drummond subsequently Dawson.Does this mean she married again? The name Drummond has beeb passed down in the family.
Given that information, this is an interesting household in 1871. A Mary Dawson wife with two Drummond children, one about the right age to be Mary Middleton:

58 Wallace St, Tradeston, Glasgow, Lanarkshire

John Dawson, 24, Head, born Glasgow, Bottler
Mary Dawson, 30, Wife, born Glasgow
Marion Dawson, 55, Mother, born Glasgow
Mary Drummond, 14, Daughter, born Glasgow, Servant
John Drummond, 11, Son, born Glasgow, Scholar
Margaret McEwan, 5, Nurse Child, born Glasgow

In the IGI there is a John Drummond, born 19 Dec 1858 Clyde, Glasgow, Lanark
Mother: Mary Drummond
No father mentioned

Likewise a Mary Drummond, borh 18 May 1856 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark
Mother: Mary Drummond
No father mentioned

:-k What do you think?

Regards,
Sarah

P.S. Could Margaret McEwan age 5 in 1871 be the Margt Taylor, 16, Sister-in-law in 1881? My, what an interesting family! :D

Hi there,
I'm no further forward, been thro' all my previous searchesand nothing doing, can't find Mary anywhere. I think I'll skip to the Hunt searchgoing back a generation Namely John Hunt married Sarah
McDowall in 1845. His father was Thomas Hunt a soldier who served in The
Cape of Good Hope from about 1802 to 1821. He married Elizabeth King
and had a family in South Africa some who returned to Scotland. Onwards
and backwards is the watchword.
All the best, Jack
