I managed to find his record of death on SP. Page 203 of the register. It shows his age as 67, having passed away on May 28, 1943. Place of residence is Edinburgh.

You mean he is not the one born 14 Jan 1862? Which are you most confident about, his date of birth or date of death?

The David Lawson you have found in Edinburgh is not the one you need. David died in Brechin on 12 August 1947 aged 85, having been born on 14 January 1862 in Brechin.

His wife Margaret Bruce is my 1/2 1st cousin 4x removed, ie her father David Bruce is the half brother of my ggg grandfather Ransom Bruce.

Hope this helps a bit - however I am not sure you will find very much in the way of an obituary in the papers. Most likely would be a notice in the family announcement section of one of the local papers. That would show for example date of death, names of family members and the time and place of his funeral. I am not sure what the local paper is in Brechin, it would most most likely be a weekly paper, as per most of the small towns in Angus, but the Dundee Courier would also be worth a try, it is a daily paper and has death notices covering most of Angus.

Hello Susan!

Upon looking at the SP record for that particular David, I did realize that it is not my g grandfather.........spouse is wrong, as is one other detail.

When I first read your post, I sat somewhat speechless at having found a distant cousin I really appreciate the information that you have just given me; it opens a new lane for my travels.

Thanks for the information about the local newspapers...........I'll give that a try.

I had a look at your settings and it did appear that PMs were set to off - no idea why. I've set it to ON now, so there should be no problem.
