Hi Sarah,

I know all of Mungo's history ( obviously apart from his non appearance on 2 census) My attempt to place James in the tree was based on, what the odds of 2 Johns marry 2 Isabella Muirs, OBVIOUSLY VERY GOOD ODDS INDEED!!!!!!

I've lost the plot now.....where does 1747 come into all of this? The events we have been trying to sort out happened well after this date. Without establishing exactly who/where /when/what in the early 1800s, we have no reliable way of going back in time to the 1700s.

Can you perhaps fill in some of the blanks for us so that we can try to help? e.g. If you have the 1855 death entry of Mungo, can you tell us what it says on that document, as Sarah suggested, so that we have some facts to work with?
I take it this is the same Mungo we are talking about?

You asked about my brick wall.

O.K, as stated earlier I ASSUMED that the odds of a John Campbell marrying an Isabella Muir were slim.
As mentioned earlier, I have children with a 17 yr age gap, so my jump into the dark re John and Isabella was based on the not implausible age differences of James to Mungo.
It was a leap of faith that has now proved to be another brickwall BUT you never know. Nothing ventured as they say.
I know that Mungo was born 1813. I have all the documentary proof. I know when he died, 1855. When he got married etc... In fact I believe Jack was able to furbish me with detail regarding his last months via poor relief before dying in Barnhill poorhouse.
What has 1747 got to do with all of this? Well based on my research I can
trace back this far. But was hoping this wild card could have unravelled a much longer thread
