Hi Sally
Just found this page , "Researching family history in South Lanarkshire libraries" , but it is still not very specific about what is held where.

Best wishes
Lesley

Thanks for the link Lesley it looks really interesting although it could be a little more helpful in pointing out which info is in every library & what bits are only in some. Still, give them their due, they are trying & it is nice to know the info will hopefully be in one of the libraries.

Regards
Sally

Hi Sally,

This isn't a lot of help, but Ancestry has the passenger list for the Peill family's arrival back in the USA in New York on Sep. 9, 1929 and on that it shows their contact person as Brother-in-law, John Taylor, Clydeside Cottages, Uddington. Looks like Jessie might really have been married to John Taylor--another of those names that will drive you crazy trying to figure out which one out of about a million of them is yours!

What do you mean "isn't a lot of help" Carol it is absolutely Brilliant :D :D Thank you so very much. I have the manifests for William, Robina & children Edward & Florence coming to the UK & returning from the UK for most of their trips over the years. Manifests for them arriving back at New York though - I only have up to 1924 as that is Ellis Islands cut off year.

Back onto Ancestry UK & SP to see if I can find a possible John Taylor in the right place in the 1901 census or marrying a Jessie/Janet around the right time.

Regards
Sally

Hi Sally,

Always glad to help! Here's a few more:

Aug. 16, 1937 Arrival NY, Robina made the trip alone. She stayed at her brother James Robertson's, 11 Alexandra Park St., Dennistoun, Glasgow.

July 22,1950 arrival NY. William 71, Robina 67 yrs. Sadly lacking details except they traveled with 4 pieces of luggage!

1954 Incoming UK--you probably have this one. Robina was 71. She stayed at 18 Swinton Rd. Baillieston, Scotland.

Robina dies in 1978 according to the Social Security Death Index. If you need details from any of the US records, let me know and I'll look.

Hi Sally
It looks like Jessie divorced & remarried
There is no sign of a divorce on The NAS catalogue at http://www.nas.gov.uk/onlineCatalogue/
With a surname like Peill, you'd think if one was listed it would be reasonably easy to find, taking into account that by the 20thC there are probably fewer spelling variatons on the surname. Mindyou, just because it is not listed, does not mean it did not happen, but just seems odd.

Best wishes
Lesley

I would also have expected an RCE on the marriage entry so perhaps she didn't marry John Taylor as she was never divorced.

Sally are you sure she didn't move to USA with her family?

Annette

Hi Sally,

Do you know who the Peills were visiting at the 18 Swinton Rd. Baillieston address? Was that Jessie?

Hi Lesley, Annette & Carol

I got sidetracked earlier when I checked the NAS catalogue link & got side tracked so thanks for that Lesley but I tried all variants I have come across & like you got nothing.

No RCE on Jessie's first marriage cert Annette. According to my dad Jessie emegrated to Australia at some time but came back to live in Scotland a few years later. Unfortunately he is no longer with us so I can't ask him to clarify when that was.

No idea who was at Swinton Road Carol but I presume it was a family member.

Regards
Sally

Hi Sally
Am I right in thinking that Janet was born in 1881, Colinton, Midlothian, and looks like it must have been after April? (not seeing her on 1881 census in Scotland) Can you tell us what were her parents' names? Wild guess - Edward & Elizabeth?? (based on a likely looking family in the 1881)

Also, was Janet's marriage to Mr. [first name?] Thomson in 1905, Coatbridge?

Best wishes
Lesley
