Hi Paul
NRH or Park Circus
NRH = General Register Office for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh. see
http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/contacts ... index.html
Park Circus = Strathclyde Area Geneology Centre at Park Circus, Glasgow. See:
http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/ ... ogyCentre/
Not sure where you are based, but if you are in a position to visit either of these buildings yourself, you would probably find the answers to your questions, and lots of other interesting information besides....(but only if the family have births, deaths and marriages that occurred in Scotland, or if they are likely to be living in Scotland and the time of a census, of course)
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi again,
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a (another) problem I have now encountered.
I've been looking at the 1881 Census and have come up with a possible, but tenuous, direction. Whilst doing a search for 'James Dale' an Ann Hay Jamieson is listed in the household as his fathers Sister-in-Law. That set me thinking that 'Hay' could possible be Helen (Ellen)'s mothers maiden name.
Then, checking the 1891 Census, there is a young girl 'Annie H J Dale' listed and also on the 1901 Census. I wanted to know what her middle initials were so have looked on Scotlands People for a birth both in Paisley and in all areas but have come up with nothing. Her father has a civilian occupation given in both Census' so I would have thought her birth would have been registered. Has anyone any ideas why not?

Hi Paul
Then, checking the 1891 Census, there is a young girl 'Annie H J Dale' listed and also on the 1901 Census.
What age(s) are given for her in 1891 and 1901?
Is she stated as born Paisley in the census on both occaisions?
If she was born in Scotland I expect her birth is there, it may just be "hiding" behind a mistranscription or similar.
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Paul,
When I search for the birth of Ann* Dale in Paisley, Renfrew, I get one hit in 1883. Have you looked at that one? In fact, when I give the first name as ann* hay jam* I also get the hit-- so it must be her!
All the best,
Sarah

The parents of that family are James Dale and Helen Jamieson.
Ann Hay Jamieson Dale was the daughter's name (I went the whole hog when searching Sarah) .
JAMES DALE
Marriages:
Spouse: ELLEN JAMIESON
Marriage:
23 JAN 1872 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
Regards,
Annette
Later..........Maybe I have the wrong family as I don't see a father with them in 1891 or 1901.

Thanks all for having a look. I'm on a flying visit as I've been called in to work (on-call

).
I didn't think to use wildcards in my searches doh! Looks like she is a Hay then...good stuff. From memory I think she was 7 and 17 respectively on the Census' and, yes, Father James seems to have disappeared with Helen named 'head' in the last two.
Much appreciated all.
Paul
