Hi All,
Thanks for the interest regarding the name Grandinson. I think Alan is correct regarding the spelling of the name. I have looked further into the line and notice that the spelling on the marriage cert of Patrick Rogers and Ann Grandison in Glasgow 1874 is minus the 'n'. Also further back the marriage of George Grandison and Mary Ann Bell in Glasgow 1854 is the same. Unfortunately this is an OPR cert and gives no more details on George's parents so i have came to a bit of a dead end as far as that is concerned.
I did find a birth cert of twin girls to George and Mary in 1857 but no more info on George.

I will keep you informed if anything else crops up.

Hi Ailsa:

The IGI has:
  • GEORGE GRANDISON
    Birth: 01 OCT 1836
Christening: 06 NOV 1836 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
    Father: JOHN GRANDISON
    Mother: ISABELLA WALKER
Marriage to Mary Ann Bell Apr 10, 1854

Children with Mary Ann:
  • Mary Ann 17 JAN 1857 Clyde, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Jane 17 JAN 1857 Clyde, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Margaret 27 APR 1860 Clyde, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
There was only one other George Grandison born in the same timeframe, and he was born in Prestonpans, East Lothian.

Have you checked the 1841 /1851 census for George? He would likely appear with his parents, at least in the 1841 as he would only have been 7.

Hi Frances,

1841 census of the 6 records only 3 under 10 years and 2 of them outside Glasgow

4 1841 GRANDISON GEORGE M 4 GLASGOW GLASGOW/LANARK 644/01 080/01 017
5 1841 GRANDISON GEORGE M 8 LINLITHGOW /WEST LOTHIAN 668/00 007/00 001
1841 GRANDISON GEORGE M 8 PRESTONPANS /EAST LOTHIAN 718/00 004/00 005

Or this in 1851

2 1851 GRANDISON GEORGE M 14 GLASGOW GLASGOW/LANARK 644/01 094/01 014

4 1851 GRANDISON GEORGE H M 18 LINLITHGOW /WEST LOTHIAN 668/00 007/00 012

Bit of a hotchpot really,

Hi Ailsa:

I made an error in George's age 1841 - 1836 = 5 years, not 7.

I will assume that the 1841 census, like those of 1851-1901, was taken either in April or March.

Given that George was born in October 1836, he would not have had his 5th birthday, so ...

4 1841 GRANDISON GEORGE M 4 GLASGOW GLASGOW/LANARK 644/01 080/01 017

2 1851 GRANDISON GEORGE M 14 GLASGOW GLASGOW/LANARK 644/01 094/01 014

... would be my choices for checking more closely.

The 1841 was taken in June.
