It looks as though Isabella may have come to Australia with her father in 1855 on the Glenroy but didn’t stay for long.

Unless I’ve fumbled it the father of the 1874 death appears to have been John and you may get more for A99c.

Hi Alan,
What did you do, just keep plugging in plausible male names until one came up with a result?!

On Scotland's People there is an Adam Guthrie born (and/or baptized) in Coylton, Ayr in 1791, father John. There is one other around that time, but not in Ayrshire. Coylton is right next to Sundrum, which is his birthplace according to the 1851 census.

Just lucky Sarah,

I had a very quick look at the IGI and all that turned up was one born a few years too early, in Midlothian I think, with a father John. John was the first name I tried and amazingly it worked.

Speaking of such things, on Scotland's People there are several possible wills for a John Guthrie in Ayr at a plausible time, if we only knew his occupation and could narrow it down. I'm assuming Jim is trying to find a connection between his Ayr Guthries and Adam's family.

I am working on Adam Guthrie and trying to tie up the two Guthrie,s trees Ayrshire is the most plausabile line but I have been told of a John Guthrie & Maysie Dickison parents of Adam Guthrie - North Leith married to Elizabeth Duncan.

This all started by my cousin Phyliss Guthrie who stays in Leeton Australia and she got the name when she visited Bendigo Pottery last weekend.

Once again great to have all your input and support and I hope to reach a good ending to this research

I certianly am checking on Adam Guthrie and I believe that he was from Sundrum Ayrshire and not North Leith and that there is a tie-up between my ancestors and theirs. This enquiry all started when my Cousin Phyliss Guthrie who stays in Leeton Australia went to Bendigo Pottery and read about George

Sarah mentioned earlier that Adam was a coal merchant in the 1851 census. Once again thanks for your input and time taken in your research and the common friendship we all share in searching for that link in the hope of adding another branch to a tree.
