@Sporran- Thanks, I think it's the NRH for me but I'll have to wait a while for that. I can't get 5 minutes at the PC with the little ones at the moment never mind a whole day to myself. :(

@Davie- Cheers for those. I've checked the majority of them. I started by searching the deaths and 1901 census as a cross reference for these people to ensure they were the correct names. For the ones I could not find I viewed the certificate but with no luck and 60 credits worse off.

I'm 90% sure she was born in 1899 though. The SSDI only had one Ella Mehrhof and the age fitted perfectly. The state was NY too so in conjuction with a rare surname I'm almost certain it is her. I may chase up the SSDI original application but that still won't help to locate the original birth certificate. I have the horrible nagging feeling that the certificate is online at SP but under another name.

Isabella Marr Postcards, Census

Post by SuMacd » Fri Sep 09, 2005 10:41 pm

Hi
I did some research on this family for my parents friends in Florida. They met while both on holiday on the Isle of Bute. I sent them all the details I found at the time & am hoping I may have some copies somewhere!
Unfortunately I dont have either the marriage cert or birth cert of Isabella Marr,although I also have the Rothesay details etc;
What I do have are 2 postcards- one addressed to Miss Ella Marr, 203 Crow Rd; Partick- the stamp has been removed but year ends with a 3, possibly 1903. It reads With Kindest Regards Craig Crawford Purser
PS Isle of Bute - i think this possibly means Paddle Steamer. The postcard is of Broomielaw,Glasgow where the steamers for Bute left from.
The second postcard is addressed to Mrs W R Marr at same address. It is date-stamped April 4 2005 & is of Carlisle.It is from a Wm. D. McCorkindale.
Alo have 1881 Census for Robert Marr & Marion Russell in England!

I think Isabella Marr may have been born in USA as I know her parents made more than 1 journey there.

Hope this helps

Fantastic stuff Susan, this is very much appreciated. It's also very spooky that you mention a McCorkindale as I only found out about this name the other day thanks to another thread on this forum here.

If Isabella was born in the USA it would explain alot and my inability to find her. If you would not mind could I ask you some more about this family via PM or Email.

Thanks

Rab
